Becuase the killer is, suprise surpise, h What a mess. He offered his resignation but the County Prosecuting Attorney Horgan believed that he was in fact a brilliant judge and should be given another chance. A suburban house on East Orchard Street was used to film exterior and interior scenes set in the Sabich family home. All in all, it was nothing out of the ordinary, and am quite miffed that the reviews on the back claimed that this book would take over my life for a while. At times it was exciting. The author does a great job of keeping the legal aspects clear and understandable to the layman.
He is not only a greatly successful trial attorney, but writes a damn good thriller as well. The cast and crew then returned to Kaufman Astoria Studios to film the trial scenes. Point of view; getting around the first person narrative; time sequence; it's all flashback and Hollywood doesn't like that; and then just an awful lot of plot. The author's use of the English language is impressive but somehow I felt at times it was not compatible with the character or the story. Knowing he is in deep trouble, Sabich calls upon the help of defense attorney and biggest opposition, Sandy Stern Raul Julia to help get him out of the mess.
The evidence lab returned it to Lipranzer after he had already been taken off the case. Often he is not quite aware that the lines can blur between law and license to take advantage of events. Presumed Innocent is more than two hours long and has a leisurely pace, yet maintains a high level of interest most of the way. The director allows the audience to feel the pointing finger of justice as Rusty himself becomes the primary suspect or the prosecution. For two days, the was used to depict the funeral of Carolyn Polhemus. Sabich's wife Barbara is surprisingly supportive throughout the trial. In classic mystery fashion, the question of Rusty's guilt has been compounded by questions concerning several other characters until the disclosure that might stun some readers and might leave others less surprised, yet still wondering how it all happened. As often the case, the book was so much better than the movie.
