Jack dislikes Ralph from the moment he is elected leader of the group. Ralph is a character out of the Nobel Prize-winning English author William Golding lord of the flies. Before commencing the journey of writing a successful essay, one should always keep in mind the audience of the essay. Eric shook his head, earnestly. One was made in 1963 by director Peter Brook and was shot in Black and White. Jack had the charisma and the bravery that would qualify him as the leader of the group.
Within the two groups that are formed, relationships occur between the main leaders, and the ones they consider the second highest in command. Ralph and Jack both have different qualities and beliefs that define each of them completely and at times make them both alike in many ways. It is easy to think that the opinions of the administrative directors are because of one another, when in fact, it ties back to the… Lord of the Flies. Without him, the children on the island may have not been rescued. What were the things that Jack possessed that would qualify him as the leader?. While Ralph's is based on possession of the conch, thus implying to others who hold the conch a sign of freedom. Ralph collapses at his feet: ''The tears began to flow and sobs shook him.
Why did the other boys follow or not follow them? Quickly the others realize that Jacks group only hunts and has fun. A world with no leadershipno rationality whatsoever. This shows the determination and courage that he uses to protect himself. A leader is there to guide, manage, and provide assistance to a group in a specific situation. A leader is someone who directs or guides a group. Early in chapter 8 Jack called for a vote of no confidence in Ralph's leadership. At times he also lacks them, and if he had demonstrated them he could have helped the situation greatly.
Maturity, responsibility, and sensibility are very important when it comes to being in an effective leadership position. While the other boys are interested in playing and having fun on the island, Ralph is thinking about ways to stay alive and get rescued. His ability to keep the other boys calm and protected, allows all of the problems that the boys face to be easily resolves. To start off, Ralph believes that smoke is one of the key elements to get off of the island while Jack believes that hunting is the most important thing in survival. Shortly after all the children find each other RalphÃÂs first instinct is that the island should choose a leader. He tries to hear what everybody has to say.
His character represents the fragility of civilization. As a leader, Ralph possesses the quality of responsibility. He takes a great deal of control and is usually the first to step up in a situation to benefit the safety of everyone on the island. People have always pondered this question especially when electing leaders. After reading about the Heritage Valley Medical Center, I was shocked as to how there could be such people in charge of various parts in such an organization that has had a proud reputation for providing quality services for all citizens in the community. Do all of you see? Listening to others, and not making major decisions by himself, he could have been viewed as weakness by the other boys By taking on the masculine tribal role of hunter-gatherer, Jack presents himself to the other boys as brave and strong.
For example, Jack convinces the boys to come to his tribe. He understands the importance of keeping the fire burning, unlike Jack. This is because of the fact that Ralph learned important lessons in life from Piggy. The other boys that were stuck on the island decided to not follow at first. So by Jack wishing on the boys that the beast will get them, he is showing a high level of immaturity.
Ralph believes in survival skills while Jack believes in hunting. Ralph, however, keeps the boys under order through the meetings which he holds. Piggy is the intellectual with poor eyesight, a weight problem, and asthma. This is all well until the point where Jack can no longer take this as shown in the above quote. As well as a totalitarian dictator, a democratic leader needs followers as well.
Proving that Jack represents savagery throughout the book. To finish, in order for a totalitarian dictator to survive, this person would need to have henchmen. His ability to see the good in everyone demonstrates his compassion and understanding of others, and he leads a government combination of autocracy and democracy in his society where he tries to make sure that everyone's needs have been satisfied, and that everyone gets an equal say. Humans also have social and mental needs. Does nobody want to go home? Any author should be well prepared to answer these questions.
When Ralph hunts a boar for the first time, however, he experiences the exhilaration and thrill of bloodlust and violence. In the end the group seeking a long-term reward beats out the group looking for short- term rewards, as Ralph's group prevails, causing Jack's to lose stimulating death among the other boys. This is what infact saves the stranded boys. Jack, the self-appointed leader, is at conflict with Ralph because he enjoys having power over others, and also because he does not like the rules that Ralph has made, and instead wants to go hunting. Unfortunately, the situation that Ralph gets placed in is far from perfect, and his leadership style is inappropriate for the situation, and an unlucky combination of unruly, cruel and temptacious kids causes his civilized attempts at leading his group to fail, leading to a downward spiral which pulls everyone into the depths of injustice and human instinct. Lord of the Flies Essay Lord of the Flies by William Golding is a tale of the fine line between order and chaos in society. In Ralph's group the boys consider the conch as the greatest power that one can possess.
